Our first class was Monday, January 23 at 7 p.m. Watch the recorded Zoom if you did not participate “live” and after viewing, make a video comment responding to the prompt, “How is creativity relevant to your life?”

AGENDA FOR OUR SYNCHRONOUS ORIENTATION MEETING

  1. View and discuss a short film, “How to Be Creative” then discuss key ideas
  2. Review of key ideas: Introduction to Digital Authorship
  3. Read the syllabus and review the learning outcomes
  4. Establish a day/time for our regular meeting time that works for most students
  5. Discuss the philosophy of the class and the particular approach used
    • What is an “open-network learning environment”? Why are we not using SAKAI?
    • What do we mean by the term, “digital authorship”?
    • Why is creating media such a powerful pedagogy of learning?
    • How can this course benefit you?
  6. Preview homework and expectations for next week

PLEASE COMPLETE THESE ACTIVITIES BEFORE WEEK 2

  1. Annotate a Video. Comment on “How to Be Creative” using the ANT video annotation. tool.
  2. Take a Tour. Check out the MUUT discussion board so you understand how it works. Then establish an account. (Do not create a community.)
  3. Introductions, Part 1. On the MUUT page marked “Who are You?” respond to the prompt designed to activate your early memories about creative expression in your life. You are encouraged to read and respond to the ideas of other class members.
  4. Introductions, Part 2. Using the Flipgrid, share a particular memory of your experience with creative expression during your childhood or adolescence. You are encouraged to view and respond to the ideas of other class members.
  5. READ. Read and view the assigned readings for Week 2. After reading, post a comment where you summarize and comment on some key ideas from what you learned from reading on the MUUT discussion board, “Response to Week 2 Readings.” Comment and respond to at least one peer.
  6. CREATE. Establish a Twitter account and post a message using class hashtag #EDC534. Use appropriate hashtags related to this course (#youthmedia, #medialiteracy #NWP #digilit #digped #digiURI) to find at least 20 interesting people to follow, including your instructor @reneehobbs.
  7. CREATE a Blog for this Course. Create a blog and create an About page that presents your identity. Send a tweet to the instructor with the hashtag #EDC534 plus the link to your blog’s home page before Monday, January 30 at 7 p.m. Need help creating a blog? Try Wix or Weebly.
